Deadline for Withdrawal from By-Election Set for August 28th

The Supreme Committee for General Supervision of the Safety of the Election of Members of the House of Representatives has announced that the deadline for candidates to withdraw from the by-election in the first constituency of Muharraq Governorate is August 28th.
According to the law, candidates have the right to withdraw from the election by submitting a written notification on the designated form to the supervisory committee at least 10 days before the election date.
This announcement comes after candidate for the Muharraq seat in the current by-election, Malallah Al Qahtani, announced his withdrawal from the race earlier last week. Al Qahtani cited a lack of time to prepare a comprehensive electoral programme as the reason for his decision.
Al Qahtani indicated that he will participate in the 2026 elections, without specifying whether he will run for a municipal or parliamentary seat. The by-election in the first constituency of Muharraq is scheduled to take place on September 7th.
