Three Asian individuals convicted of drug trafficking, possession, and prostitution in Bahrain appealed their sentences at the High Appeals Court which has scheduled a hearing on September 22nd to hear their case . The case, which initially involved the arrest of the defendants for a mere BD100 drug transaction, has since escalated to encompass a wider range of charges.

The defendants were apprehended earlier this year by the Anti-Narcotics Directorate in a series of sting operations. The first defendant was caught attempting to collect payment for a drug transaction via a "dead drop," while the second defendant was arrested after collecting a pre-arranged payment for 10.31 grams of marijuana – a transaction worth only BD100.

However, further investigations revealed a more complex scenario. The third defendant, a woman, was found to be using drugs with the two men and engaging in prostitution for money.

During investigations, the defendants confessed to using drugs and psychotropic substances. The female defendant also admitted to engaging in prostitution for money and being entirely reliant on her earnings from this activity.

The initial trial resulted in the first defendant being sentenced to one year in prison, the second defendant to six months in prison and a fine of BD100, and the third defendant to six months for drug use and an additional six months for prostitution.

The defendants are now seeking to overturn or reduce their sentences through the appeal process. Their legal teams will argue their case before the High Appeals Court, hoping to achieve a more favourable outcome.
