Bangladeshi Embassy in Bahrain Holds Summer Awareness Program for Construction Workers

On Thursday, 29 August 2024, the Embassy of Bangladesh in the Kingdom of Bahrain conducted a Summer Awareness Program for the Bangladeshi workers at a construction site in Seef area in collaboration with the Bahraini Ministry of Labour, the Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA), and the International Organization for Migration (IOM).

The program was chaired by Chargé d'Affaires a.i. of the Embassy, Mr. A.K.M. Mohiuddin Kayes, First Secretary of the Embassy, Mr. Md. Mahfujur Rahman, took the role of master of ceremonies. The program also witnessed the participation of Mr. Hussain Al-Hussaini (Head of Awareness and Guidance Department of the Ministry of Labour), Ms. Rana Al-Ahmad (Preventive Inspection Specialist from the LMRA), and Ms. Fatima Mohammed, a member of the IOM.

The Chargé d'Affaires a.i. Mr. Kayes delivered his welcoming remarks to around 60 construction workers, who were also present during the program, where he touched on the need for workers to take care of their health and adhere to all health and safety guidelines set by the Government of Bahrain by drawing attention to the fact that each of them is the main source of income for their family back home. He also emphasized on the need to drink enough water and to avoid working under the scorching sun during the afternoon for the sake of maintaining a good health and safety. He concluded his speech with the promise to continue on the path of holding such awareness programs in various fields in the future.

It may also be mentioned that the Head of Awareness and Guidance Department of the Ministry of Labour, Mr. Hussein Al-Hussaini, gave a brief speech in which he pointed out the necessity for workers to maintain their health by drinking sufficient amount of water due to the level of effort they exert in this hot season.

He also urged the workers to adhere to all safety guidelines, including wearing high-visibility jackets, safety helmets, and safety shoes while working at their work sites. During his speech, he also referred to the ministerial decision regarding the ban on working under direct sunlight and in open places during the afternoon from 12 pm to 4 pm during July and August.

He further stressed that if any sponsor or supervisor forces their workers to work during the ban time, then the workers would have the right to contact the Ministry of Labour by calling their hotline number 80008001.

The program concluded with the distribution of thermos flasks, juice, and lunch meals to the workers, followed by the distribution of free medical care coupons for the Bangladeshi expat community in Bahrain.
