The Embassy of India organized an Open House on 30th August, 2024 which was chaired by Ambassador H.E. Mr. Vinod Kurian Jacob.  The Embassy’s Community Welfare team along with the Consular team and our panel lawyers were present. Over more than 70 Indian nationals took part in the Open House which was held in English Hindi, Tamil and Malayalam languages.

The Ambassador expressed happiness at the overwhelming participation of Indian community members at the Flag Hoisting Ceremony organized by Embassy to celebrate 78th anniversary of India’s Independence.

The gathering was briefed on e-Clearance for Afterlife Remains (eCARe) portal. The objective of this portal is to streamline the process of Public Health Clearance for transporting mortal remains to India (https://ecare.mohfw.gov.in/).

A TB patient undergoing treatment at Salmaniya Hospital for a long time was repatriated to his hometown on 23rd August with the intervention of the Embassy and support of the Labour Marketing Regulatory Authority (LMRA).

In another case, among the 21 stranded workers who attended the previous Open House, 19 workers have traveled back after receiving their outstanding payments and the remaining 2 workers will be traveling shortly.  The Ambassador expressed his gratitude to the officials of the Ministry of Labour for their timely assistance in addressing the matter.

The Embassy continues to assist distressed housemaids by providing boarding and lodging, as well as issuing Emergency Certificates and tickets to distressed people through ICWF. Legal assistance from ICWF has also been provided to distressed Indian nationals on a means-tested basis.

It was a productive interactive session. The grievances/issues of the Indian community were successfully addressed; some were resolved at the open house, while others will be taken up at the earliest.
