MP Bader Saleh Al Tamimi has expressed his sincere gratitude to Minister of Housing and Urban Planning, Ms Amina bint Ahmed Al Rumaihi, and Minister of Municipalities and Agriculture Affairs, Eng. Wael bin Nasser Al Mubarak, for issuing a decision to implement new building regulations in residential areas.
Al Tamimi, who proposed the amendment to the building regulations in the first session of the current legislative term, stated that his proposal was approved by the Council of Representatives in May 2023 and subsequently submitted to the government.
He emphasised that his proposal was based on a thorough feasibility study, taking into account the public interest and the well-being of citizens.
The implementation of these new regulations is expected to significantly reduce building violations, with Al Tamimi claiming a 90% decrease in violations and related legal cases filed by municipalities against homeowners.
Al Tamimi explained that these regulations are the result of extensive work and collaboration between past and present municipal councils. They aim to facilitate reconciliation between citizens and relevant authorities, streamlining procedures and easing the burden on homeowners.
The new regulations will also allow for the expansion of housing units, addressing the current widespread issue of building violations.
Al Tamimi commended the collaborative efforts between the legislative and executive branches, highlighting their effective coordination in implementing policies and legislation that benefit both the nation and its citizens.
