Bahrain's municipal councils are preparing to resume their regular sessions in September after a summer break. The three municipal councils for the governorates of Muharraq, Northern, and Southern, along with the Capital Municipality Council, will reconvene for the third session of the year.
The regular sessions of the municipal councils were suspended at the end of June for the summer break.
The Capital Municipality Council's first meeting is scheduled for September 11th, where the council will approve the formation of committees, review ministerial responses, and discuss decisions made during the break. The council will also prioritise topics for the third session in upcoming meetings.
Moreover, the Muharraq Municipal Council will hold its first meeting on September 9th, focusing on committee assignments, addressing pending issues from the break, and reviewing urgent correspondence from ministries requiring council input.
Meanwhile, the Northern Municipal Council will hold a pre-meeting for committee formation before the first regular meeting on September 2nd. The first meeting will finalise committee assignments.
A consultative meeting on committee formation will take place on September 4th for the Southern Municipal Council, followed by the first regular meeting on a date to be determined.
The first meeting of the Southern Municipal Council will see discussions on a range of topics, including a proposal to expand Isa Town Road as well as a new exit opposite the Ministry of Education to ease traffic congestion, especially after the school year begins. The Southern Municipal Council will also consider a proposal to remove oil pipelines along Muaskar Avenue to facilitate road widening.
Confidence
Council leaders expressed optimism about the upcoming session, highlighting the importance of collaboration and achieving impactful results. Dr Shubir Al Widai, President of the Northern Municipal Council, stated, "We aspire for the Northern Municipal Council to achieve the desired accomplishments, and I am confident that council members will work together as one and achieve a qualitative leap in their municipal work."
