The Kingdom of Bahrain has witnessed a significant increase in car imports during the first half of 2024, according to new statistics released by the Information & eGovernment Authority (IGA).

The data reveals a 9% rise in car imports compared to the same period in 2023. A total of 19,402 vehicles were imported into Bahrain between January and June 2024, compared to 17,781 vehicles during the same period last year.

This upward trend indicates a strong demand for new cars in the country. The statistics also highlight a steady increase in car imports since 2019.

Over the past five and a half years, Bahrain has imported a total of 187,501 vehicles.

Impact

While 2019 saw a peak in imports with 37,614 cars, the COVID-19 pandemic significantly impacted the market in 2020, leading to a 28% decline in imports.

Only 27,262 cars were imported that year. However, the market has since recovered, with a gradual increase in imports since 2022.

The latest figures for 2024 show a consistent monthly import rate, with January seeing 3,116 cars, February 3,661, March 3,593, April 2,856, May 3,031, and June 3,145.
