The Bahrain Free Labour Unions Federation (BFLUF) has praised the Cabinet's decision to extend the afternoon work ban for three months, from June 15th to September 15th, starting next year, 2025. The decision, which was announced today, comes in response to a long-standing proposal by the BFLUF.

Yaqoub Yusuf Mohammed, President of the Federation, stated to the News of Bahrain that this decision has been a long-awaited demand by labour unions and workers in the Kingdom of Bahrain.

"The Federation has consistently advocated for its implementation in various forums and events, inspired by His Majesty the King's vision to strengthen human rights and protect workers from all hazards, particularly during periods of rising global temperatures," he said.

He highlighted that the Kingdom of Bahrain has always been a pioneer and a model for humanitarian and human rights work in the region.

"The government, under the leadership of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, has proactively implemented the decision and swiftly responded to safeguard human health and dignity," he pointed out.

Moreover, the BFLUF President emphasised that workers have received the decision with great happiness and appreciation. He stressed that this will positively impact work and workers in sectors affected by high temperatures during the summer months.

He also pointed out the decision's impact on enhancing the Kingdom's reputation regarding workers' rights and occupational safety at regional and international levels. The coming period will witness international praise for this decision, he said.

"The Federation will work to inform the international community about this decision and its impact on the human rights and labour landscape in the Kingdom of Bahrain. The Kingdom has achieved numerous accomplishments in these areas, as well as in all humanitarian and human rights domains, during the prosperous era of His Majesty the King," he concluded.

It's worth noting that the midday work ban usually starts on July 1st and ends on September 1st each year in the Kingdom of Bahrain. But this year, and due to increasing temperatures, labour unions called to extend its implementation period to protect the workers.
