Muharraq Municipal Council: 156 recommendations and 21 decisions in 10 months

The Muharraq Municipal Council has revealed that its 21 meetings over the past 10 months have resulted in 156 recommendations and 21 decisions. Key among these are the preservation of coastal areas, the development of promenades and parks, the construction of playgrounds, and infrastructure projects including sewage networks and street improvements.
The council approved a proposal to establish a dedicated marina for the maintenance of traditional boats in Muharraq, and recommended finding suitable solutions for rainwater accumulation.
They also submitted requests for the planting of trees in several squares and streets, as well as the establishment of a nursery and greenhouses. The Muharraq Municipal Council prepared its annual report on the second phase of the sixth term of municipal council work, covering the period from September 2023 to June 2024.
Meetings
A total of 21 council meetings were held under the chairmanship of Abdulaziz Al-Naar, resulting in 156 recommendations and 125 decisions.
In terms of committee activity, the Permanent General Committee held 19 meetings under the chairmanship of the council president, resulting in 142 recommendations and 20 decisions. The Financial and Legal Committee, chaired by member Fadhil Abbas Al Oud, held 15 meetings, resulting in 28 recommendations and 26 decisions.
Chairmanship
The Services and Facilities Committee, chaired by member Ahmed Yusuf Al Maqhawi, held 17 meetings and issued 130 recommendations and 8 decisions.
The Technical Committee, chaired by member Mohammed Yusuf Al Mahmoud, held 13 meetings and reached 7 recommendations and 2 decisions.
According to the report, some of the council’s most prominent recommendations include providing insights on the proposal submitted by the Council of Representatives regarding the preservation and development of coastal areas in all governorates, and the provision of essential services to them.
Ideas
The council also presented ideas for the creation of promenades, the development of existing parks, their maintenance, the construction of playgrounds for the youth of Muharraq, and taking necessary precautions and measures to address rising sea levels.

Action
Regarding the development of street infrastructure and finding solutions to traffic congestion, the council has taken action on several projects.
Notably, they are following up on the completion of Riya Avenue and the streets leading to it, as it is a strategic street connecting various areas of Muharraq and leading to the capital, Manama. In addition, they are monitoring streets, roads, and pathways in all districts, creating entrances and exits, bridges, and a dedicated marina for the maintenance of traditional boats.
