Bahrain is marking World Ozone Day, which this year celebrates the 37th anniversary of the Montreal Protocol under the theme “Montreal Protocol: Fixing the Ozone Layer and Reducing Climate Change.”
His Highness Shaikh Abdullah bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Chairman of the Supreme Council for Environment (SCE), affirmed Bahrain’s dedication to contributing to global efforts to safeguard the ozone layer through innovative initiatives and projects aligned with international environmental standards.
This commitment stems from the directives of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the support of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
He highlighted Bahrain’s progress, including the recent ratification of the Montreal Protocol and the Kigali Amendment through Decree (33) of 2024.
These steps underline Bahrain’s commitment to international efforts to protect the ozone layer and combat climate change.
Best practices
The Chairman also stressed that SCE will continue to support the refrigeration and air conditioning sectors by promoting best practices in managing and reducing the use of ozone-depleting substances.
Bahrain is set to reduce these substances by 73.5% by 2025, meeting the requirements of the Montreal Protocol and boosting international cooperation on emissions reduction.
HH Shaikh Abdullah thanked the SCE employees and all those involved in environmental work for their efforts in driving forward initiatives that help protect the ozone layer.
