Inspections of single-use plastic bags across Bahrain have shown that 17% of 551 samples taken from 502 stores do not meet the required thickness standards, the Ministry of Industry and Commerce revealed.
The ministry announced that 551 samples were collected during campaigns to ensure compliance with the ban on manufacturing, importing, or trading plastic bags thinner than 35 microns.
These checks are part of the government’s programme to promote sustainable development and protect the environment in line with Bahrain’s Economic Vision 2030, which aims to reduce pollution and preserve natural habitats. The inspections confirmed that 83% of the samples complied with the regulations, but 17% were found to be in violation.
The ministry reiterated its determination to enforce Resolution No. 14 of 2022, which prohibits the production and sale of thin single-use plastic bags. In its statement, the ministry confirmed that its efforts would continue, with further inspections planned to ensure retailers adhere to the law.
