To maintain urban safety and hygiene, the Southern Municipality has executed a campaign to remove illegal street vendors in the Ras Zuwayed area, specifically in blocks 951 and 952. This initiative was carried out in collaboration with the Southern Governorate’s Police Directorate and relevant authorities.

During this operation, municipal authorities confiscated 43 display mats and platforms used to sell a variety of goods, including damaged vegetables, spoiled fruits, and improperly stored fish that failed to meet health regulations. Additionally, four vehicles and buses used by these vendors for illicit sales were seized.

This crackdown highlights the ongoing illegal commercial activities conducted by street vendors who lack the necessary permits from the official entities. The campaign forms part of the municipality’s broader efforts to curb unsightly practices that undermine the urban environment and do not comply with health and safety standards.

The Southern Municipality emphasised in a statement that addressing these violations and taking action against offenders is a fundamental responsibility of municipal authorities, aimed at preserving the overall landscape of the area.

"The illegal sale of unsuitable food items—stored improperly and lacking basic health standards—places consumers at risk. The municipality considers it imperative to impose strict measures to protect citizens and residents alike from potential harm," the statement stated.

The municipality also underscored that the continuation of these enforcement campaigns is made possible through effective collaboration with various governmental bodies that support their efforts in this regard.
