The General Directorate of Criminal Investigations and  has announced in a statement it apprehended a 28-year-old man for allegedly throwing acid on a woman in her thirties, causing burns to her face and hand. The incident occurred in the Capital Governorate.

"Upon receiving a report about the attack, police immediately launched an investigation, collecting evidence and identifying the suspect. The individual was subsequently apprehended and legal proceedings initiated. The case has been referred to the Public Prosecution," the statement stated.

It's worth noting that the Daily Tribune reported last week that a Bahraini woman in experienced a horrific incident that forever changed her life and that of her two daughters, aged 9 and 11, while they were at a popular shopping mall.

Just moments after exiting the mall and before reaching her car, the mother was ambushed by a masked assailant who awaited their departure to commit his crime.

According to lawyer Kameel Al Alawi, who is representing the victim, the mother was preparing to leave the mall when her daughters, who had gone ahead to the vehicle, encountered a strange, masked man standing next to the car.

Feeling frightened and suspicious, the girls quickly alerted their mother about the presence of the masked man.

Unaware of the imminent danger, the mother rushed to protect her daughters. Upon reaching the car, she confronted the assailant, who was wielding a bottle containing a hazardous chemical.

The situation escalated rapidly, leaving the mother unable to react in time. The attacker then threw the chemical substance onto her face and body, causing severe burns that have permanently disfigured her. Al Alawi confirmed that law enforcement agencies have launched an investigation into the incident and that he has filed a complaint.

Meanwhile, the victim remains hospitalised, undergoing treatment and necessary surgeries to address her injuries.
