Coast Guard seizes 1,661 kg of illegally caught marine life

The Coast Guard announced the seizure of 1,661 kilograms of illegally caught fish, shrimp, and other marine species over a seven-month period, from 1st January to 31st July 2024. Authorities recorded 820 maritime violations, including illegal fishing practices and the use of unlicensed vessels.
The offenses ranged from capturing juvenile fish and shrimp to using prohibited floating trawling nets and entering protected marine zones.
In addition to enforcing fishing laws, Coast Guard patrols rescued 472 individuals and assisted 318 vessels in distress during this period.
Fishermen and seafarers are being urged to adhere to regulations and cooperate with inspections. Violators could face imprisonment of up to one year and fines as high as BHD 2,000.
The Coast Guard reinforced its authority under Article 17 of Decree-Law No. 32 of 2020, which oversees the registration, safety, and monitoring of small vessels in Bahraini waters.
