MPs acted swiftly after a bank’s decision to dismiss 40 staff members incited widespread anger, ultimately cutting the figure to 26.
Emergency meetings led by Second Deputy Speaker Ahmed Qarata brought to light pressing labour issues and the necessity of safeguarding workers’ rights amid growing job insecurity.
Qarata and his colleagues voiced their concerns about the layoffs, collaborating with the Minister of Labour to seek prompt solutions.
This included initiatives to reinstate the dismissed employees with enhanced benefits and measures to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
Qarata also advocated for ongoing discussions with the bank’s management to avert arbitrary dismissals. He stressed the need to protect the rights of Bahraini workers and ensure job security in accordance with Bahrain’s labour laws.
Preserving workers’ benefits, he noted, is vital for maintaining healthy relations between employers and employees.
