Two brothers have been handed a combined sentence of 11 years in prison for their attempt to smuggle cannabis-laden vapes across the King Fahd Causeway.

The older brother, 36, received a 10-year term and a fine, while his younger sibling, 31, was sentenced to one year in prison along with a fine. The First Criminal Court ordered the confiscation of the seized items, and the brothers are appealing the verdict.

A hearing is set for September 29 at the High Criminal Appeal Court.

The incident began when narcotics officers detained the brothers at the causeway, uncovering plastic containers filled with a liquid believed to be CBD.

Drug trafficking

Investigations later revealed a drug trafficking network linked to the first brother. Customs officers observed that the brothers seemed disoriented and initially denied any knowledge of the situation.

Further searches uncovered various quantities of suspected cannabis products concealed in their belongings, including a large stash located in their vehicle.

Ownership

During questioning, the older brother admitted to using narcotics and claimed ownership of the seized items. Toxicology reports confirmed the presence of cannabis in the evidence.

The public prosecution has charged both brothers and a third defendant, aged 22, with multiple drug-related offences.
