Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al-Zayani, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Bahrain, took part in the Seventeenth Ministerial Meeting of the Global Governance Group (3G).

The meeting, hosted at the Permanent Mission of Singapore in New York, was chaired by Singapore's Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Dr. Vivian Balakrishnan, and included the participation of representatives from G20 nations.

The session was held on the sidelines of the 79th United Nations General Assembly.

In his address, H.E. Dr. Al-Zayani emphasized the significance of the meeting as a platform for meaningful dialogue with G20 countries. He highlighted the escalating global challenges in the past year and stressed the need for enhanced international collaboration to address these pressing issues.

Dr. Al-Zayani pointed out that achieving sustainable development goals requires a peaceful, stable, and secure global environment. He identified the ongoing conflict in Gaza as the most urgent challenge facing the Middle East, calling for a ceasefire that ensures the release of hostages and detainees and facilitates the delivery of humanitarian aid to affected civilians.

The Foreign Minister also referenced the May 2024 Arab Summit hosted by Bahrain, which launched a critical initiative advocating for an international peace conference aimed at resolving the Palestinian issue based on a two-state solution. He noted that the summit called for full recognition of the State of Palestine and its membership in the United Nations.

Additionally, the summit underscored the importance of providing education and healthcare to those impacted by regional conflicts. Dr. Al-Zayani urged G20 nations to prioritize these initiatives, as they are vital in offering hope for a brighter future to millions of young people.

In closing, the Foreign Minister reaffirmed Bahrain's commitment to continued involvement with the G20 in promoting multilateral efforts to foster a more peaceful, stable, and secure world. He stressed that only through genuine collaboration can comprehensive, sustainable, and equitable solutions be found to the challenges facing nations worldwide.

The 3G Ministerial Meeting serves as a platform to encourage inclusive dialogue among UN Member States on key global issues, including peace, security, and sustainable development, with particular focus on the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and the plight of the Palestinian people
