Bahrain now ranks third among Arab nations and holds 41st place globally in the 2024 Global Digitalisation Index (GDI), a measure of progress in digital transformation worldwide.

The Kingdom earned 44.7 points in the report released by Huawei Technologies, trailing only the UAE and Saudi Arabia in the Arab world.

The GDI assesses the development of the information and communications technology (ICT) sector in 77 countries, using criteria such as digital infrastructure, cloud computing, and sustainable energy.

Countries are divided into three tiers — ‘Frontrunners,’ ‘Adopters,’ and ‘Starters’ — based on their maturity in the ICT sector and economic development.

The report covers 93% of the global economy and encompasses 80% of the world’s population, reflecting the widespread move towards digitalisation across the globe. The US, Singapore, Sweden, Finland, and Denmark lead the list.

Bahrain demonstrates strong progress in digital transformation.
