Bahrain’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, His Excellency Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, participated in a high-level meeting of the Arab Troika—comprising the Kingdom of Bahrain, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and the Republic of Iraq—with members of the United Nations Security Council. The meeting, held at the UN Headquarters in New York, took place on the sidelines of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly.

The meeting saw the presence of key regional and international figures, including Saudi Arabia's Foreign Minister, Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud; Iraq's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Fuad Hussein; and the Secretary-General of the Arab League, Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit. The session on the UN Security Council side was chaired by Ms. Tanja Fajon, Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of Slovenia, the current president of the Security Council, and was attended by the foreign ministers of the Council's member states.

In his address, Dr. Al Zayani underscored the critical role of the joint meeting between the Security Council and the Arab League in bolstering efforts to safeguard regional peace and security. He emphasized the need for peaceful resolutions to ongoing conflicts in the Arab world, reaffirming Bahrain’s commitment to addressing regional issues through dialogue and diplomacy.

“The Arab region is grappling with several conflicts and crises,” Al Zayani remarked, “with the Palestinian-Israeli conflict at the forefront, alongside disputes in Libya, Sudan, Syria, Yemen, and Somalia.” He further stressed the devastating impact of terrorism and the toll these conflicts take on the economic and social stability of Arab communities, as well as their broader implications for regional and global security.

Praising the UN Security Council's essential role in conflict resolution, Dr. Al Zayani acknowledged the Council's efforts in making responsible decisions aimed at maintaining international peace. However, he lamented that these decisions often face obstacles in full implementation.

Reflecting on Bahrain’s leadership in the region, Al Zayani referenced the 33rd Arab Summit, known as the "Bahrain Summit," held in May under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa. During the summit, Arab nations reaffirmed their unified stance on promoting sustainable peace and adopted Bahrain's initiative to host an international peace conference to address the Palestinian issue. The proposal seeks a two-state solution, calling for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, alongside gaining full membership for Palestine in the United Nations. Furthermore, the initiative emphasizes providing vital educational and healthcare services to conflict-affected populations in collaboration with international organizations.

Concluding his speech, Dr. Al Zayani expressed hope for stronger international backing for such peace-building initiatives, especially from the Security Council, which holds the responsibility for upholding global security and stability. He emphasized that greater international support would be a key step toward achieving lasting peace in the region.
