The Board of Trustees of the Bahrain Higher Education Council (HEC), chaired by the Minister of Education, His Excellency Dr Mohammed bin Mubarak Juma, held its regular meeting and issued a series of decisions impacting the higher education sector. The meeting, attended by board members, advisors, and invitees, focused on enhancing the quality and international reach of Bahraini universities.

A key outcome was the granting of programmatic accreditation by the HEC to several academic programmes. These programmes are aligned with the national qualifications framework and will maintain their accreditation until the next review cycle conducted by the Quality Assurance Authority for Education and Training. The Council also adopted key performance indicators (KPIs) for the development of Bahrain’s higher education sector.

These indicators focus on institutional and program quality, research and innovation, internationalisation, and academic mobility. The Council mandated that all higher education institutions establish dedicated units to monitor their graduates. These units will track employment rates, assess the alignment of skills with market demands, monitor career progression, and gather feedback from employers on programme outcomes.
