The Court of Cassation has upheld a three-year prison sentence for a foreign national, imposing a fine of BD3,000 on her for various charges, including assaulting a police officer and possessing illegal drugs. Following the completion of her sentence, she will be permanently deported from the country, and her confiscated items will be seized. The incident began when information was received by an officer indicating that the defendant had drugs for personal use.
A warrant was obtained from the Public Prosecution to arrest her. Officers proceeded to her location in an apartment in the Al Juffair area, where they informed her of their mission. However, she resisted, physically assaulting a police officer and causing injuries documented in a forensic report, while also using abusive language. After a prolonged struggle, the officers managed to subdue her and took her to the Anti-narcotics Directorate.
Accompanying the victim at the time was a second witness, a police sergeant, who testified that the defendant had assaulted and insulted the officer. A drug test conducted on the defendant’s urine sample revealed the presence of cocaine and methamphetamine. The court’s ruling confirmed the allegations against the defendant, relying on solid evidence, including testimonies from the injured officer, as well as the forensic report and the results of the drug test.
The Public Prosecution had charged the defendant with using violence against a public employee as well as unlawfully possessing narcotics and psychotropic substances for personal use. Additionally, she was accused of publicly insulting the officer, undermining her honour and dignity during the performance of her job.
