Ali Hassan Al Ahmadi, the Ambassador of Yemen to the Kingdom of Bahrain, has confirmed that the five Bahraini nationals detained in Yemen are still under investigation by the relevant authorities in Marib province. He stated that the embassy does not have information regarding the nature of the investigations or the expected duration of the proceedings The Ambassador emphasised that Bahrain’s Ministry of Interior is in direct contact with its Yemeni counterpart to monitor the situation. The five Bahraini citizens were detained last month by Yemeni security forces in Marib, located northeast of the capital, Sana’a, after crossing into Yemen from Oman to travel to southern Saudi Arabia, as confirmed by their families.
Health conditions
Meanwhile, the Bahraini Ministry of Interior is actively monitoring their health conditions to ensure their safety and well-being, as well as keeping track of the legal proceedings initiated by the Yemeni authorities. The father of one of the detainees in Yemen had reported receiving reassuring calls from his son and the other detainees, indicating that investigations into their case have concluded and their release is imminent. Speaking to our sister newspaper Al Ayam, the father stated that his son informed him of a verbal notification from the Yemeni authorities confirming the completion of the investigation and the absence of any legal complications.
Release
The detainees were assured of their release and expected return to Bahrain soon, the father stated. He also expressed his gratitude for the efforts of Bahraini authorities, particularly the Ministries of Interior and Foreign Affairs, in following up on the case and facilitating the release of the detainees. The Daily Tribune reported earlier this month that MP Jalal Kazim had briefed the families of Bahraini citizens detained in Yemen on the latest developments regarding their loved ones’ situation, while the families appealed to the government to intervene and end the suffering of their detained relatives.
