A clampdown on labour law violations has resulted in the deportation of 151 workers, following 2,179 inspections carried out by the Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) from 22 to 28 September 2024. These inspections uncovered serious breaches of regulations, leading to the detention of 40 workers found to violate the law and triggering immediate legal action against those involved.
During this period, multiple violations of both the Labour Market Regulatory Authority Law and the Residency Law were identified. The LMRA conducted 2,147 visits across various commercial establishments throughout all governorates, along with 32 joint inspection campaigns. Eighteen of these campaigns took place in the Capital Governorate, with four in the Muharraq and Northern Governorates, and six in the Southern Governorate. This extensive operation involved collaboration with the Ministry of Interior, including the General Directorate of Nationality, Passports and Residence, as well as local police directorates and other relevant agencies.
The LMRA stressed the need for continued coordination with government entities to strengthen inspection efforts across the kingdom and address any violations that could disrupt the stability and competitiveness of the labour market or threaten Bahrain's economic and social security.
In response to these developments, the authority has urged community members to support government initiatives against illegal practices in the labour market and irregular employment. It encourages individuals to report any concerns regarding labour market violations by completing the electronic form available on its official website at www.lmra.gov.bh, using the national system for suggestions and complaints (Tawasul), or contacting the authority’s call centre at 17506055.
