Embassy of India commemorates Gandhi Jayanti to promote peace

The Embassy of India, Bahrain commemorated the 155th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and International Day of Nonviolence yesterday.
The ceremony was graced by Members of the Council of Representatives, H.E. Mr. Abdulla Khalifa Al Romaihi, H.E. Mr. Mohamed Husain Janahi, and H.E. Mr. Hassan Eid Bukhammas, alongside Ambassador H.E. Vinod K. Jacob. Officials from the government of Bahrain, and members of Indian and Bahraini community participated.
Ambassador and officials of the embassy offered flowers to the Father of the Nation. Welcome address Ambassador Jacob delivered the welcome address in Arabic and English, wishing everyone on the solemn occasion. The Members of Parliament shared their thoughts on the legacy of Gandhian philosophy, and its profound impact it had had globally over decades.
They also discussed the role played by Gandhi in the Arab World. Since 2007, October 2nd is celebrated as the International Day of Non-Violence, in accordance with the General Assembly resolution A/RES/61/271 of 15 June 2007, which established the commemoration as an occasion to “disseminate the message of non-violence, including through education and public awareness”.
The resolution reaffirms “the universal relevance of the principle of non-violence” and the desire “to secure a culture of peace, tolerance, understanding and non-violence”. The event also included an exhibition of paintings of Mahatma Gandhi, depicting his life. Embassy also held the campaign of “Swatchtha hi Seva,” focusing on cleanliness that had started from 14 September 2024.
