This young man was hit on the leg with a wooden log during a skirmish outside a cold store. This also caused the log to break into two pieces. Seeing this, in a fit of rage, the 18-year-old picked up one of the broken pieces and threw it forcefully at his attacker.

What happened next was beyond his imagination. The log struck his attacker directly in the eye.

Panicked, onlookers jumped in and rushed the injured man to a hospital. However, doctors later declared they couldn’t do much, as the log had damaged the man’s iris, lens, and optic nerve, leaving him with 10% permanent vision loss. Police registered a case.

Even though the judges acknowledged the young man’s actions as unintentional during the trial, they said that this did not mean there would be no punishment, given the severity of the consequences.

Court files say the entire incident started when the young man’s younger brother was hit by the cold store worker during an altercation. Enraged, the brother informed the young man and a friend about it, and they all went to the cold store to exact revenge.

There, the worker stood with a group of other Asian nationals. Soon, both sides began shouting at each other, and the situation quickly escalated. At some point, the worker picked up a stick and hit the young man on his thigh.

Pained and outraged, the young man picked up the broken stick and threw it at the attacker, striking him in the left eye.

During the trial, the judges acknowledged that the teenager’s actions were unintentional but maintained that the consequences warranted punishment. The young man also got his appeal rejected, citing the same reason.
