As the Shura Council prepares for its third convening period, Secretary-General Karima Al Abbasi has announced plans to incorporate advanced AI technology to enhance legislative operations.

This initiative aims to reshape the workings of Bahrain’s governance, drawing from the successes of the previous year’s digital efforts.

This came during a meeting held with the officials in the General Secretariat yesterday. Al Abbasi acknowledged important role played by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalfa and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, in supporting the legislative process.

She expressed confidence that their ongoing support would further strengthen the council’s work in advancing Bahrain’s democratic and legislative framework. Extensive preparations Al Abbasi outlined the extensive preparations taking place under the guidance of Shura Council Chairman Ali bin Saleh Al Saleh.

The focus is on improving both administrative and technical capabilities to support legislative activities, ensuring that all departments are equipped to manage sessions, committee meetings, and provide essential legal and research assistance to council members. She pointed out the introduction of advanced technologies, particularly artificial intelligence and digital tools, designed to streamline council functions, manage sessions, digitise reports, and maintain electronic records.

These developments build on the council’s past achievements and will be expanded in the upcoming term. Smooth operations Al Abbasi also addressed the arrangements for media coverage, transportation, and safety measures, all of which are crucial for ensuring smooth operations throughout the council’s activities.

These preparations, she confirmed, align with the constitutional and legal frameworks that govern the council’s work. As part of the General Secretariat’s strategic plan for 2024-2025, the focus remains on strengthening institutional support for legislative work, ensuring sustainability, and promoting excellence. Collaborative efforts between the Shura and Representatives Councils are already underway to organise the opening session, aimed at enhancing the legislative process.
