The Civil Defense Directorate has released its latest report, indicating a slight decrease in the number of emergency calls received during the month of August when compared to the previous month of July.

In July, the total number of incidents reported reached a significant 1,260, whereas August saw a total of 1,248 calls for service.

Despite this minor decline in overall call volume, the figure still represents a considerable and demanding workload for emergency responders, who remain vigilant and ready to assist the community in times of need.

Variety of incidents

The data from July indicated a variety of incidents, categorised as follows: there were 605 calls for assistance, 200 fire-related incidents, 81 traffic accidents, and 7 incidents involving falls from trees, signs, or other objects. This variety underscores the diverse challenges that emergency services face.

In August, while the overall number of emergency calls showed a slight reduction, the breakdown of the types of incidents revealed some noteworthy trends that merit attention.

Assistance calls

Specifically, assistance calls saw a decrease, dropping from 605 in July to a total of 594 in August.

This reduction in assistance calls may suggest a variety of factors, including changes in community needs or perhaps improved preventative measures.

Fire-related incidents also experienced a decrease, falling from 200 in July to 186 in August. This decline could be attributed to successful fire prevention initiatives or seasonal changes that affect the likelihood of such incidents occurring.

Traffic accidents On the other hand, traffic accidents saw an increase, jumping from 81 in July to 92 in August.

This rise in road incidents is concerning and may reflect growing traffic volumes or other contributing factors that need to be addressed. Interestingly, the number of incidents involving falls from trees, signs, or other objects also saw an increase, rising to 10 in the month of August.
