A 30-year-old Bahraini man is facing drug smuggling and possession charges after being apprehended at Bahrain International Airport.
His sophisticated scheme, which involved using his sister as a cover to import a significant quantity of narcotics, resulted in his appearance before the High Criminal Court yesterday.
The case has been adjourned until October 15th pending further testimony from an investigative officer.
Personal use The defendant confessed to bringing the drugs into the country, claiming they were for personal use.
However, the prosecution alleges that he intended to traffic the narcotics, a claim supported by the substantial amount of drugs seized and evidence found at his home.
His lawyer, Jawad Salman, has requested the court summon witnesses.
Suspicious luggage Customs officials at the airport initially alerted authorities to suspicious luggage belonging to the defendant and his sister.
A subsequent search revealed a meticulously concealed cache of drugs and pills hidden within the seams of clothing, food packaging, and other seemingly innocuous items.
The contraband included hashish, cocaine, and a large quantity of various prescription pills, including Captagon, Larica, and Bromazepam.
