HM King Hamad Affirms Bahrain’s Strong Strategic Partnership with the United Kingdom

His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the King of Bahrain, highlighted the Kingdom’s pride in its robust strategic relations and historic partnership with the United Kingdom, a relationship built on a long history of alliance, cooperation, and constructive collaboration in various fields.
The affirmation came during His Majesty’s reception of The Rt Hon David Lammy MP, Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Affairs of the United Kingdom, at Al-Sakhir Palace today. The meeting marked the British official's visit to Bahrain.
During the reception, His Majesty warmly welcomed Secretary Lammy and reviewed the trajectory of Bahrain-UK relations, underlining the shared commitment to deepening and strengthening these ties across all levels. The mutual dedication to the relationship was noted as serving the common goals and interests of both nations.
His Majesty also praised the United Kingdom’s significant role on both the regional and international stages, commending the UK's efforts in bolstering security and stability in the Middle East and beyond.
The discussions between His Majesty and the British Foreign Secretary touched on current regional and international developments, with a focus on the Middle East. His Majesty particularly emphasized the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza, stressing the importance of de-escalation, preventing further conflict expansion, and ensuring the protection of civilians in accordance with international humanitarian law. His Majesty called for the release of detainees and the urgent need for a lasting ceasefire agreement in Gaza to facilitate humanitarian aid and alleviate the suffering of its people.
Additionally, he highlighted the necessity of working towards a comprehensive and just peace, based on the two-state solution, to secure stability in the region. His Majesty further underscored the importance of de-escalating tensions in Lebanon, preserving its sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity.
Reaffirming Bahrain’s support for peace initiatives, His Majesty stated that Bahrain is committed to backing any efforts that promote peace in the region, recognizing that such steps are essential for the prosperity and development of all nations.
In response, Secretary Lammy expressed his profound gratitude to His Majesty for the warm welcome and hospitality extended to him and his delegation. He praised the longstanding and deep-rooted ties of friendship between Bahrain and the United Kingdom, acknowledging Bahrain as a vital strategic partner for the UK. Secretary Lammy reiterated the UK's keen interest in expanding bilateral cooperation with Bahrain, in a manner that benefits both countries and their peoples.
