Before they departed for France, the 5 doctors of the 2024 batch of the Bahraini-French medical program were honored at the Résidence of France on October 9, with the participation of H.E. Lieutenant General Dr. Shaikh Mohamed Bin Abdulla Al Khalifa, Chairman of the Supreme Council of Health.
Coming from the Bahrain Defense Force - Royal Medical Services military hospitals as well as Salmaniya public hospital, the graduating doctors are part of the 2023-2024 cohort of the "Doctors of the Gulf " program. The Ambassador of France to the Kingdom of Bahrain, H.E. Éric Giraud-Telme, stated: “This ambitious training program will enable the 5 doctors of the graduating batch to deepen their specialty and develop high standard skills alongside the most qualified practitioners, at the heart of the French healthcare system.”
He recalled “the long tradition of medical excellence in France where we celebrated the 800th anniversary of the Montpellier University of Medicine, which was the first in the world and is still one of the most renowned in Europe; while France today counts 13 French winners of the Nobel Prize in Medicine”.
The ceremony was an opportunity to congratulate the 5 doctors on obtaining their proficiency diplomas in French (DELF B2), and to wish them a successful start on their journey to France.
The “Doctors of the Gulf” program is a well-established medical cooperation program between France and Bahrain, since the signing of an MoU in 2019 during the visit of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa to France. This training program enables Bahraini doctors to strengthen their capacities in France and then come back to Bahrain and contribute to an integrated and comprehensive Bahraini health system covering all medical specialties, in line with the Kingdom’s ambition.
The Ambassador of France said he was looking forward to “exploring other forms of healthcare cooperation, including fellowships, nursing training, sharing of expertise on complex clinical cases, as well as France’s participation in the Manama Health Conference”.
