The High Criminal Court has ordered the seven-day detention of a 38-year-old Arab woman pending further investigation into a large-scale drug smuggling operation. The suspect is accused of involvement in the attempted smuggling of approximately 130,000 Captagon pills into the Kingdom, a seizure valued at BD640,000 (approximately $1.7 million).
This significant drug bust, announced by the Ministry of Interior on Sunday, is the result of a collaborative effort between Bahraini customs and drug enforcement units. The Captagon pills were cleverly concealed within a shipment of tightly sealed pipes, prepared in specialized workshops to evade detection. While the 38-year-old woman suspect is currently in custody, Bahraini authorities are actively pursuing two other suspects, both 26 years old, believed to be operating outside the Kingdom.
