A Bahraini tenant has successfully recovered BD9,000 in a landmark court case after their landlord breached a rental agreement. The case highlights the legal recourse available to tenants facing similar situations.
The tenant, represented by lawyer Aqeela Jassim, had paid BD9,000 as an advance payment for three commercial units still under construction.
The agreement, reached on May 17, 2017, stipulated that the units would be ready within two months. However, the landlord failed to deliver on this promise, instead leasing the same units to another party six months later.
Jassim explained that her client repeatedly urged the landlord to fulfill the agreement over a six-month period, but to no avail.
The landlord remained unresponsive and ultimately rented the premises to a third party in December.
