The Shura Council reconvened yesterday, affirming Bahrain’s dedication to democracy and human rights.
Chairman Ali Saleh paid tribute to His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa’s vision for the nation, emphasising the need for progress aligned with the will of the people.
“We reaffirm our loyalty to Bahrain’s leadership and pledge to protect the achievements led by His Majesty,” Saleh stated. He remarked that this session coincides with the celebration of the silver jubilee of King Hamad’s accession to the throne.
Saleh also recognised Bahrain’s sporting achievements, particularly the medals won by Bahrainis at the Olympics.
Unopposed reelection
The session saw the unopposed reelection of Jamal Fakhro and Dr Jehad Al Fadhel as First and Second Deputy Chairmen of the Shura Council. The session began with a reading of Royal Order No. (38) of 2024, which summoned both the Shura Council and the Council of Representatives for the Third Convening Period of the Sixth Legislative Term.
Additionally, Royal Order No. (35) appointed Dr Anwar Al Sada to fill the seat left vacant by the late Abdulrahman Jamsheer, who passed away in August.
Legislative priorities
Saleh outlined key legislative priorities for the coming months, including food security and the integration of artificial intelligence into parliamentary work.
He praised the collaboration between the legislative and executive branches, particularly acknowledging His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
“We extend our deepest gratitude to those who defend our homeland,” Saleh added, honouring the nation’s security forces and remembering those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
“Their names will remain in Bahrain’s history.”
Arab initiatives
He concluded his remarks by commending HM the King’s efforts and those of the Arab summit, stressing the importance of Arab initiatives in pursuing a two-state solution and addressing the conflict in Gaza.
Saleh also reiterated the objectives laid out in the Bahrain Declaration, which was issued during the Thirty-Third Regular Session of the Council of the League of Arab States at the Summit Level.
In his address, His Excellency Ghanem bin Fadl Al Buainain, Minister of Shura and Parliament Affairs, started by congratulating HM King Hamad and HRH Prince Salman, echoing Saleh’s sentiments on the importance of collaboration between the legislative and executive branches.
Contributions
He also took a moment to honour the late Abdulrahman Jamsheer and his contributions to the nation. “We welcome Dr Anwar Al Sada to the Council and wish him success in fulfilling his national duties,” he remarked.
In closing, Al Buainain reaffirmed the government’s determination to continue working towards the betterment of the nation, expressing hopes for success in serving the country’s interests.
