Shura Council embraces artificial intelligence for new era of efficiency in lawmaking

Artificial intelligence (AI) is set to revolutionise lawmaking in Bahrain. The Shura Council, beginning its third convening period, aims to integrate AI into its legislative process for greater efficiency and modernisation, guided by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa’s recent address.

The General Secretariat is prepared to implement new technologies to enhance meeting efficiency and ensure a smooth start to the session.

Karima Mohammed Al Abbasi, Secretary-General of the Shura Council, noted that the royal speech serves as a guiding principle for the upcoming legislative session.

She told The Daily Tribune, “The Council is adapting to changes in artificial intelligence to enhance legislative work.” Preparations for this third session of the sixth legislative term focus on improving efficiency across various administrative areas, aligning with the strategic plan for 2024-2026.

“We are employing the latest technologies to manage sessions, facilitate information exchange, and digitise reports,” she said. Al Abbasi also discussed an upcoming parliamentary support programme for members, featuring organised sessions and discussion groups on issues vital to the nation and its citizens.

Organisational needs

This initiative ensures that all organisational needs for sessions and committee meetings are met. The General Secretariat is ready to assist Council members in their national responsibilities and has held several meetings with officials to review departmental progress.

Preparations for the opening day of the third legislative session, presided over by HM King Hamad, are receiving attention.

The General Secretariat is collaborating with the Council of Representatives on shared services to ensure efficient operations during the session.

Measures

Several measures are in place to guarantee the smooth functioning of Council activities.

The integration of technology, including AI, will effectively manage and organise meetings, facilitate access to information, and support analysis.

The forthcoming agenda will focus on integrating AI into legislative processes and developing the legal framework to support this initiative.
