The government has responded to an urgent parliamentary proposal aimed at addressing traffic congestion in the streets. It noted that traffic jams are often the result of emergency situations, such as traffic accidents and adverse weather conditions, in addition to the heavy use of vehicles during peak hours.

In its memo that has been sent to the parliament, the government acknowledged that it has studied the proposal concerning the need for research and solutions to address the significant increase in the number of vehicles on the roads, which leads to near-daily traffic congestion.

The government clarified that it is working on updating its traffic improvement strategy through a comprehensive study based on traffic surveys, statistics, and future projections.
The studies aim to develop solutions to alleviate congestion by enhancing the road network, introducing new traffic policies, and proposing regulations related to vehicle safety and specifications, including the lifespan of vehicles.

Furthermore, the government emphasised that the General Traffic Directorate will continue to enforce vehicle registration regulations based on the technical condition of each vehicle, without infringing on individuals' rights to own vehicles and freedom of movement.

This approach aligns with existing laws, including Traffic Law No. 23 of 2014 and its executive regulations. As a result, the government has canceled the registration of 84,569 vehicles between 2021 and 2023.
