In the first parliamentary session yesterday, following a procedural meeting that followed a four-month recess, the Council of Representatives did not live stream the session on its YouTube platform for the first time in years.
This marked a notable departure from previous sessions that were typically viewed live by thousands. Instead, a recorded video of the session was later posted on the Council’s channel. During the session, the Council discussed messages received from the government regarding 30 proposals.
A brief exchange took place at the beginning between Council Speaker Ahmed Al Musallam and newly elected member Abdul Wahid Qarata.
Request
Al Musallam denied Qarata’s request to deliver an unlisted speech, despite Qarata’s appeal to parliamentary traditions.
In his remarks, MP Dr Ali Al Nuaimi acknowledged the media’s presence, stating, “I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the presence of our media colleagues from the press and media on their journey with us in the first and second rounds, as well as today in the third round. We assure them that the media sector and the press deserve a lot, and we stand with you in all circumstances.”
The session was attended by HE Ghanim bin Fadhl Al Buainain, Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Dr Mariam Adhbi Al Jalahma, Chief Executive Officer of Government Hospitals, and other officials from various government departments.
However, the selection of members for the five parliamentary committees did not take place during this session.
