A 22-year-old man managed to execute a bold gold theft, using an online payment app to make off with jewellery valued at BD3,000 from several unsuspecting shops, along with a handful of mobile phones.
The Capital Governorate Police quickly took action after receiving reports about the scam, which involved the suspect deceiving jewellers into believing he’d made payments through app, only to vanish before completing the transactions.
Upon receiving the multiple complaints, the Public Prosecution moved swiftly to investigate.
The Head of the Capital Governorate Prosecution revealed that the suspect had tricked shop employees by claiming he would pay via a digital payment application, all while never actually transferring any funds.
Following his arrest, the suspect was questioned about the various allegations against him, and the Prosecution decided to hold him in custody as inquiries continue. Authorities are now preparing to refer the case to criminal court.
