The High Appeals Court has reinstated the alimony payments for a university student after his 80-year-old father successfully filed a case to terminate the payments. The father had argued that his son, now 23, was old enough to support himself.
The case, handled by lawyer Eman Al Ansari, highlights a dispute over financial responsibility within a family. The son and his 28-year-old brother live with their mother following their parents' divorce. The mother previously obtained court orders requiring the father to pay 500 Bahraini dinars in monthly alimony and 280 dinars for housing for both sons.
According to Al Ansari, the son, who is studying abroad, was unaware that his father had successfully appealed to stop his alimony payments two years prior. His mother had been covering his expenses during this period. The son subsequently appealed the lower court's decision, arguing that he was still a full-time student and unable to support himself.
