With over 400 Bahrainis suddenly out of work, lawmakers are rushing to create immediate job opportunities as the Council of Representatives addresses rampant layoffs.
Recently, the Council approved an urgent proposal aimed at meeting the pressing need for employment among those dismissed by various companies.
MP Zainab Abdul Amir highlighted that the proposal seeks to employ Bahrainis and enhance their status in the job market, especially as many companies benefiting from Tamkeen support have let go of their Bahraini workers.
Dismissal According to Abdul Amir, a bank has dismissed around 26 Bahraini employees, contradicting Central Bank policies, while a hospital laid off approximately 36.
Fifty-five were also dismissed from another private company. MP Mohammed Al Rifai expressed concern that the Ministry of Labour appears unable to manage the escalating layoffs, noting the irony of companies seeking experienced new hires while simultaneously dismissing highly qualified personnel.
This urgent proposal aims to prioritise Bahraini workers and protect their rights in the labour market.
Action As a key supporter of the proposal, MP Abdul Amir emphasised the need for immediate action to secure suitable employment for Bahraini workers and their families.
The wave of dismissals conflicts with the national labour market strategy launched by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, which aims to uphold the rights and benefits of all workers.
The fallout from this situation is likely to affect the families of those laid off, threatening their living standards amid increasing financial burdens.
