Bahrain Post, in collaboration with the Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications and the Ministry of Municipalities and Agriculture, has announced the release of commemorative postage stamps celebrating the centennial of the first municipal council elections in the Kingdom of Bahrain. The stamps feature a historical image of the original municipal council building in Manama.

The stamps, priced at BD1 for a first-day cover and BD5 for a sheet of ten, will be available for purchase at the Bahrain National Museum and all Bahrain Post branches across the country, including Muharraq, Al Hidd, Manama, Diplomatic Area, Bahrain Mall, Sitra, Al Budaiya, Hamad Town, Isa Town, and Sanad. They will be on sale during regular business hours, Saturday to Thursday.

This latest release continues Bahrain Post’s tradition of commemorating significant historical events. The stamps mark the 1920 elections, a pivotal moment in Bahrain’s history. The late Shaikh Abdullah bin Isa Al Khalifa served as the first president of the municipal council.

He was succeeded by the late Shaikh Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa in late 1920, who held the position until 1929, after which the late Shaikh Mohammed bin Isa Al Khalifa assumed the presidency. During this period, the council’s membership expanded from eight to 20 members to ensure a quorum and strengthen decision-making.
