Khalifa bin Salman Port Reports Strong September 2024 Performance: Ministry of Transportation Announcement

The latest performance reports from the Ministry of Transportation for Khalifa bin Salman Port reveal intriguing shifts in Bahrain's maritime trade between August and September 2024.
While both months demonstrated robust activity, a closer examination highlights distinct trends across various cargo categories, underscoring the ever-evolving landscape of the port’s operations.
In September, container traffic reached 36,318 TEUs, down from 39,409 TEUs in August, indicating a possible peak in August followed by a decline in September.
General cargo volumes remained relatively stable, with 48,163 tons processed in September compared to 47,296 tons in August. A substantial increase in vehicle traffic was observed in September, with 4,357 vehicles processed, a significant rise from August's total of 2,618 vehicles.
However, vessel calls experienced a slight decrease, with 53 recorded in September compared to 60 in August, suggesting a minor reduction in maritime activity. Liquid cargo handling also saw a slight decline, with September reporting 817,156.72 metric tons, down from 841,856.36 metric tons in August.
Conversely, solid cargo handling rose significantly in September, reaching 2,542,088 metric tons compared to 1,762,736.38 metric tons in August. Administrative activities showed some variation as well.
In September, 36 commercial licenses were issued, 12 inspections conducted, and 171 vessel departure certificates processed, while August had 20 licenses, 10 inspections, and 172 departure certificates.
In July 2024, Khalifa bin Salman Port handled a total of 28,719 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) in container traffic. The port processed 113,526 tons of general cargo and saw vehicle traffic of 4,776 vehicles.
A total of 57 vessels called at the port during the month. In terms of administrative activities, 17 commercial licenses were issued, 12 inspections were conducted, and 194 vessel departure certificates were processed.
Liquid cargo handling reached 718,538.568 metric tons, while solid cargo totaled 2,378,308 metric tons. These results reflect a robust maritime activity for the port in July 2024.
