Commercial Discount Licenses Surge 20% in Q3

The number of licenses issued for commercial discounts in the Kingdom soared by 20% in the third quarter of 2024, according to a report released by the Consumer Protection Directorate within the Ministry of Industry and Commerce. The report shows a jump from 1116 licenses in the same period of 2023 to 1335 licenses this year.

This significant increase reflects a rise in commercial activity related to discounts and promotions, attracting consumers and boosting market activity. The report, covering July to September 2024, also details other key performance indicators, including consumer complaints, promotional campaign licenses, and the number of licensed raffles.

A noteworthy finding is a 10% decrease in consumer complaints compared to the same period in 2023. The report registered 1901 complaints in 2024, down from 2123 in 2023. This drop suggests improved consumer satisfaction and more effective market oversight.

While discount licenses saw substantial growth, promotional campaign licenses experienced a modest 2% increase, rising from 748 licenses in 2023 to 762 in 2024. Conversely, the number of licensed raffles showed a slight 1% decrease, falling from 218 in 2023 to 215 in 2024.
