After two decades of worshipping in Bahrain, the Orthodox Christian community is celebrating the start of construction on their own church in Seef District.
Thanks to a land gift from His Majesty King Hamad, the 1,250 square metre project will include a main church, a hall for various uses, accommodation for the priest, and office space.
The design brings together the Byzantine tradition with Bahraini architectural features, making the church a distinct new addition to the area.
Father Saba Haidosian, the parish priest, expressed his joy: “This new church will represent the long-standing presence of Orthodox Christians in Bahrain and strengthen our ties with the wider society.”
Peaceful coexistence
The donation, he added, speaks to Bahrain’s enduring support for its Christian community and the peaceful coexistence among faiths. Construction has already begun, with Maher Contracting leading the work.
General Manager Maher Al Ansari expressed his thanks to the church’s board for their confidence in his firm, vowing that the project will be completed to the highest standards and delivered on schedule.
The project will be overseen by Salah Al Kohaji Consulting Office, which has been entrusted with ensuring smooth progress and quality throughout every stage of the work.
