Zallaq’s roads are currently being dug up, resurfaced, and fitted with new streetlights, while sewage and stormwater systems are progressing steadily. This is all part of a multi-million dinar drive to overhaul the Southern Governorate’s infrastructure.
The Ministry of Works revealed the details during a Southern Municipal Council meeting yesterday, alongside updates on various other road projects aimed at easing traffic and improving safety in rapidly developing areas.
The project in Zallaq, situated in Block 1056, is on course to be completed by January 2026. Upon completion, the area will benefit from newly surfaced roads, brick-paved sidewalks, and pedestrian paths.
As of now, 40% of the project is finished, which includes the installation of streetlights, coordinated with the Electricity and Water Authority, as well as road signage to ensure safe passage.
However, the works in Zallaq are just one part of a much larger scheme.
The council meeting also presented an ambitious set of developments stretching across Madinat Khalifa, Riffa, and other southern locales.
The Ministry’s focus isn’t limited to road upgrades but also includes improvements to sewage systems, stormwater drainage, and lighting infrastructure.
One key development is the new dual carriageway connecting Hunainiyah Avenue and Al Muaskar Highway, which is currently 15% complete.
