The House of Representatives will vote in its next meeting on Tuesday on a proposal urging the government to address persistent waterlogging in the Wadi Al Buhair area.  The proposal, submitted by MPs Khalid Buanq, Zainab Abdulameer, Mohammed Al Rifai, Mohammed Al Ma'arifi, and Waleed Jaber Al Dosari, highlights the problem's impact on residents, citing mosquito infestations and constant insect bites. The proposal recommends that the government either fill in the area or transform it into a nature reserve to ensure continuous water flow, preventing stagnation and insect breeding.

The Public Utilities and Environment Committee reviewed the proposal and recommended its approval after considering input from the Ministry of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture, and the Southern Municipal Council.

The Ministry expressed support for the proposal's objectives, emphasising its ongoing efforts to remove household waste and take necessary measures to create a healthier environment for residents.  The ministry's statement highlighted their commitment to waste removal and related actions to improve the area's living conditions.

The Municipal Council, in its recommendations, proposed transforming the Wadi Al Buhair area into a nature reserve.  The council's assessment points to stagnant water as the root cause of the problem, fostering weed growth and breeding grounds for disease-carrying mosquitoes and insects.   This poses a significant health risk to residents and visitors, the council noted.

They further highlighted a previous recommendation, made during the first session of the fifth legislative term, to establish a nature reserve in Wadi Al Buhair.  The council's support for the proposal is based on this prior recommendation and the ongoing health concerns.

The House of Representatives will now consider the proposal and its potential solution of designating the area as a nature reserve.
