The Public Utilities and Environment Committee of the House of Representatives has recommended approval of a proposal to increase the number of housing units in the Southern Governorate's constituency 7.

The proposal, submitted by MP Ali Al Nuaimi, aims to address the significant housing demand in the area, particularly for long-standing applications.  The proposal calls for the identification and allocation of land for new housing projects to meet the needs of those on the waiting list.

The explanatory memorandum accompanying the proposal highlights the rapid population growth in the area, the limited number of existing housing projects, and the urgent need for additional housing units.

The committee discussed the proposal with the Ministry of Housing, which confirmed that it is currently working on constructing 372 new housing units in Khalifa City.  The ministry also highlighted ongoing land development projects under the Land Development Rights programme, aimed at providing affordable housing options for citizens.

The ministry further mentioned new flexible financing programmes to support homeownership.  Despite the ministry's ongoing efforts, the committee still recommended approval of the proposal, underscoring the continued need for increased housing in constituency 7.

The parliament will vote on the proposal next Tuesday and it's expected to approve it.
