The Kingdom of Bahrain is pioneering in its commitment to human rights through the implementation of alternative penalties and open prisons, according to MP Dr. Maryam Al Dhaen. She emphasised that these initiatives reflect Bahrain’s dedication to tolerance, justice, and the vision of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.
Dr. Al Dhaen stated that alternative penalties offer a real opportunity for beneficiaries to reintegrate into society, contributing to the nation’s comprehensive development. She noted that these measures strengthen democracy and uphold the rule of law, enhancing Bahrain’s standing in legal and humanitarian spheres. The open prisons program, supported by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, underscores the humane approach of the Bahraini leadership.
Significant role
Dr. Al Dhaen highlighted the Ministry of Interior’s significant role, led by H.E. Lieutenant General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, in ensuring the success of these initiatives. She further emphasised that these programs not only stabilise families and society but also promote education and training for beneficiaries. Dr. Al Dhaen called for collaboration between the public and private sectors to provide job opportunities, boosting self-confidence and encouraging active participation in the nation’s growth.
