Minister of Tourism Explores strategic collaboration to boost Bahrain's MICE Industry

On the sidelines of the 63rd International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) conference in Abu Dhabi, HE Mrs. Fatima bint Jaffar Al Sairafi, Minister of Tourism, held a meeting with Mr. Jurriaen Sleijster, President of MCI Group, a prominent event management organisation, to explore new collaborative opportunities aimed at attracting and securing prestigious international events, conventions, and exhibitions to Bahrain.
The meeting focused on building upon the MOU signed recently between Exhibition World Bahrain (EWB) and MCI Middle East for joint collaboration. Both parties emphasized the importance of utilising innovative strategies to target both international and regional audiences, positioning Bahrain as a prime destination for prestigious international conferences and expos.
The meeting between the two parties also identified potential events that are linked to the primary targeted sectors associated with Bahrain Economic Vision 2030 and the Kingdom's Tourism Strategy 2022-2026 goals.
“We are firmly committed to enhancing our MICE industry and expanding our offerings. By prioritizing EWB and leveraging MCI’s regional and international networks, we can attract high-profile conventions and exhibitions and target priority sectors that align with our tourism strategy 2022-2026 and Bahrain Economic Vision 2030 goals at large. Our mutual agreement with MCI aims to prioritize Bahrain as a preferred location for MCI-managed events, with a proactive approach to sourcing and securing significant new gatherings at EWB.” HE the minister of tourism stated.
The meeting detected promising economic sectors for event acquisition, ensuring alignment with Bahrain’s broader objectives to elevate business tourism in the long term. It also highlighted the importance of conducting thorough market research and analysis to evaluate the feasibility of potential conferences and exhibitions, sharing market intelligence, and leveraging networks to maximize opportunities.
Mr. Alexander John, Regional Director of MCI Group, and Mr. Ajay Bhojwani, Managing Director of MCI Middle East, along with the EWB team, participated in the meeting, reinforcing the commitment to collaboration beyond MCI’s regional office to its international operations.
This meeting aligns with Bahrain’s ongoing efforts to elevate its position within the MICE industry and collaborate with regional and international event organisers, ensuring a vibrant future for the sector in the Kingdom.
