Drivers on Shaikh Hamad Avenue in Muharraq can now pay for parking using a mobile app, following concerns that fewer people carry cash and instead rely on online payment apps.
Bahrain’s first e-payment parking meters have been introduced as part of a broader Ministry of Works plan to phase out old coin meters across the kingdom, aligning parking practices with a more modern approach.
The Ministry of Works, in coordination with the General Directorate of Traffic at the Ministry of Interior, launched this service in the initial phase of upgrades on Shaikh Hamad Avenue.
This change aims to make parking simpler and quicker, enabling drivers to pay fees through online payment apps and extend their sessions remotely, eliminating the need to stand by the meter.
While cash payments remain an option, the ministry is focused on providing users on Bahrain’s busier streets with more flexible payment options.
The update also allows drivers to pay for specific parking durations as needed, in line with official time limits and parking extensions.
