His Highness Shaikh Isa bin Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Isa bin Salman Educational Charitable Trust, Chairman of the Labour Fund, and Chairman of the Supreme Authority of the Rashid Equestrian and Horse Racing Club, underscored the importance of advancing Bahrain's horse racing sector through enhanced infrastructure and developmental projects. This, he noted, would ensure the sector's continued growth and contribution to national aspirations, in line with the vision of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the close follow-up of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
His Highness made these remarks while chairing the meeting of the Supreme Authority of the Rashid Equestrian and Horse Racing Club at Riffa Palace. During the meeting, the authority reviewed a significant report from the Asian Racing Federation, announcing the elevation of His Majesty the King’s Cup to Group 3 international status, along with the promotion of the Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa Cup and Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa Cup to Listed status on the international racing circuit. The Supreme Authority hailed this recognition as a milestone that reflects Bahrain’s growing stature in global horse racing.
Night Races and Developmental Initiatives
In a historic move, the club also announced the launch of night races for the first time in Bahrain, set to begin in the upcoming 2024/2025 season. The night races will follow the completion of the racecourse lighting project, marking a new era for the Kingdom’s horse racing scene. The Supreme Authority emphasized that night races would attract more international participation, building on the success of previous seasons, which saw strong global interest from horse owners and trainers.
Additionally, the meeting reviewed and approved the 2024/2025 racing season calendar, with 30 races planned, a significant increase from previous seasons. The Bahrain International Trophy will also expand to include 12 races, further cementing its position as one of the most prestigious international events, attracting participants from around the globe.
Focus on Local Talent
In an effort to boost local horse production, His Highness reviewed the launch of the Future Stars Championship, a new initiative dedicated to promoting locally bred horses. The championship, comprising six races spread across three rounds, aims to encourage Bahraini owners to enhance their capabilities and improve local horse breeding efforts.
Club Developments and Investment Opportunities
Further discussions centered around various projects aimed at enhancing the facilities at the Rashid Equestrian and Horse Racing Club. These include upgrades to the main grandstand and the overall experience for participants and spectators. The authority also explored strategies to attract new investment opportunities, positioning the club as a prime destination for horse racing enthusiasts both locally and internationally.
The meeting concluded with the Supreme Authority expressing its appreciation to all partners and sponsors for their continued support. His Highness emphasized that this backing plays a crucial role in strengthening Bahrain's position as a global leader in the horse racing world.
The 2024/2025 season will officially commence on November 1, with the opening race honoring the late Shaikh Rashid bin Isa Al Khalifa, recognizing his invaluable contributions to the club. The season will run until the final race on April 18, 2025, marking what promises to be an exciting chapter in Bahrain’s racing history.
